things colin says...

Colin loves to play pretend. He likes to be different characters from books and movies. He also likes to assign characters to the rest of the family. Some days he'll be Simba, and I'm Sirabi, and Nate is Mufasa, Kate is Nala (but none of his uncles are Scar because Scar is mean and his uncles are nice); other days he is Prince Phillip, and Kate is Maleficent, and I am Sleeping Beauty; he also likes to be Dopey, I'm Snow White, and Kate is Grumpy; you get the idea. This morning we were all assigned new characters, as inspired by a pair of hand-me-down Star Wars pajamas.

Colin: I'm Obi Wan Kenobi!
Me: Great. Have fun with that. Who am I?
Colin: You're Obi Two Kenobi! And Gray is Obi Three. And Daddy is Yoda. And Kate is Star Wars.

We all had a good laugh.

Gray is super handsome. His face is filling out and he's starting to look chubby. Also, his hairline is receding. 

These two nutjobs were wrestling and it was adorable.

My poor girl fell on the floor and got a Lego in the face. At first we couldn't tell what the problem was, but then the shape appeared and it was obvious. You can't tell quite as easily in this picture which was taken the next day.

Every time I go to take a picture of Gray, I end up taking like 20. So be thankful that I'm not posting all of them.

When Gray turned 6 weeks old on Saturday it's like a switch was flipped and he decided to start smiling. He does it a lot now, but it's still hard to capture with the camera. (I would say "on film," but nobody uses film anymore.)

I was trying to show that his eyes are still blue. But they don't look that blue in the picture. I still think they will go dark eventually.

And yet another photo shoot with Gray. I just love his different facial expressions. And his face.

What took me so long to jump on the baby girl jeggings bandwagon? Oh wait, it's because I hadn't found them for less than $4, which is what I'm willing to pay for children's clothes. Kate looks so freakin' cute in them. (And, surprise surprise, her dad think they are dumb.) And they actually fit her around the waist! Huzzah!

She looked much better later yesterday after her hair was done.

And here's Gray yesterday so you can see just how awesome he currently is.

This isn't a great picture, but I really like this little snuggly blanket that a sweet sister in my ward gave to Gray. I kind of want to steal it from him so I can snuggle with it.

It was my week to teach Joy School this week. I'm doing it with 2 other ladies and their 3-year-olds. Monday was hard—I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Today was much better, although my own son had me almost in tears for the first hour. I think that as time goes on it will get easier and easier, although I am having it confirmed for me that I am not a natural born teacher. This stuff is not easy for me. (This stuff being getting kids to pay attention to me, making learning fun, and having patience.) Even though it's pretty crazy on the days that I teach, it's totally worth it to me to have Colin gone the other 2 weeks. He's having such a great time going to different homes and being with his friends. On Friday it's my day to be in charge of Cooking Slash Science. (The other two are doing Art and Music on Fridays.) Anyone have any suggestions for an easy cooking project or science experiment? I was thinking of doing celery in colored water this week.

I'm headed to the doctor today for my 6 week postpartum checkup. I have to have my blood sugar checked, so I've been fasting today and it sucks. Wish me some diabetes-free luck, won't you?

But first, some videos that make me laugh. I haven't watched Sesame Street on tv since I was a kid, but I've enjoyed watching clips of it on youtube. And it makes me happy that my kids like these videos too.

legos and stuff

It looks like I might be a little behind on blogging. My bad. I haven't been very good about taking pictures—several days go by before I even think about it—probably because of the sleep deprivation. Here's what we've been up to the last couple of weeks.

Colin and Kate love their Legos. Which means I love their Legos. Because they will sit and play Legos nicely together several times a day.

Are you impressed with this house? Because you should be.

Colin went out to help his daddy with his tools.

They were being "Two Red Riding Hoods." Kate has already taken off her hood.

I have a picture similar to this of Colin. Gray is a very handsome, laid back baby. I love him.

When the older kids were getting ready for bed I noticed that they were both wearing Mickey Mouse pj pants and white shirts, and Gray happened to be in a white onesie, so I got his Mickey Mouse blanket out and had a photo shoot. I couldn't decide which pictures I liked the best, so I uploaded all of them. Thanks for the sweet pjs, Granny! (And thanks Lenna and DeAnna for sharing the hand-me-downs.)

Colin and Kate were cooking in their kitchen, and they convinced Nate to play with them. Colin got my apron out for him, and Nate was willing to put it on until he saw me get the camera out. I convinced him to be a good sport and let me take a picture. He acquiesced.

Guess that's it for pictures. Colin and Kate got to go to the zoo with my brother Grant today. (Grant had to study the monkeys and write a paper for school, so he and his wife took my kids with them.) They had a great time, and Nate and I had a great time getting some shopping and chores done without them. Gray didn't seem to notice they were gone.

And speaking of Gray, he is 4 weeks old today. Yay! Hooray! He just may lay this way by the bay.
