Kate the Cheerleader
Our neighbor/volunteer nanny, Mary, is a cheerleader for Maple Mountain High School. (She's going to be a sophomore this year.) MMHS had some kind of mini cheer camp, and Mary asked if Kate wanted to go. I said I was sure she would, but since she currently had a nasty ear infection, she probably wouldn't be up to it. Then the day the camp started Mary's mom called and asked again if Kate wanted to go. She said that it was a fundraiser and she would have to pay the money eventually anyway, so she just went ahead and paid for Kate to go. She even offered to drive Kate to and from the high school. Since Kate was feeling better I said sure. So Kate went to cheer camp, just like a big girl. It was 2.5 hours long for 3 days. Saturday afternoon they had a performance after the class part. I laughed until I cried watching Kate. It was so funny. She was the only one just standing there during the cheer and not doing anything. Then she would do a move every now and again during the dance. Apparently I was so busy laughing/crying that I didn't notice that my phone wasn't recording. I thought I had taped the whole thing, and it turns out I only taped 2 seconds. I was so mad! I really wanted to be able to show that video to her when she got older. (Nate said it was her first and last cheer performance.) Anyway, a week or two later Kate just starts chanting this cheer in her room. I had no idea she had actually learned it! She and the boys do it all the time now. Hilarious.
I knew there were other pictures!
I found my camera and the pictures I knew had to be somewhere. The first part is Colin's graduation from preschool (May 13), then his birthday party/family gift opening (June 29/30).
Colin and his two neighbor friends Ben and Kali'i. They were way more interested in snacks than in pictures.
Opening his presents from Mom and Dad Saturday morning after birthday doughnuts.
Indiana Jones hat and whip, Harry Potter broomstick, and a real tape measure and tool belt.
He had no idea that ribbon was stuck to his bum. But Gray noticed and insisted that he get a turn to wear it too.
These are some of the masks and capes I made for the party favors. (And when I say I made them, I mean I came up with the idea and did some of the work, but mostly my mom is awesome and sewed everything together.)
The other superhero game that I came up with on the fly. The kids drew pictures of villains (which turned out to just be pictures of who-even-knows-what) and then used the water guns to squirt their pictures.
Opening presents.
Reading the card. It must have been very serious and heartfelt.
Then on Sunday the aunts/uncles/cousins/grandparents came over for cake and ice cream. Colin opened even more presents. Sheesh.
The candy was a big hit. Too bad Dad ended up eating most of it. Colin was always so excited when Nate would share candy with him. I made sure to point out that it was Colin's birthday candy that Nate was sharing.

I feel like there should be more pictures, but I can't find my camera. So all of these pictures are from my phone.
Just another impromptu tea party. You know that's how we roll.
Gray loves to dress up. And he loves to carry as much random junk as possible.
We made some sidewalk chalk paint. It was a big hit. It kept the kids occupied while I snuck out to the garden.
Colin is getting better and better at writing his letters, especially in his name. I wish I could convince him to use lowercase letters too, but he thinks he knows better than me.
Friends! Hazel and Emmeline came to play one day.
My sister was getting rid of a huge box of shoes. Gray took a shine to these sassy blue heels.
Kate looked pretty good in them too.
Colin reading books to the little kids. It's so nice when the cooperate and play together. And I love that Colin can read to them and give me a break for a few minutes!
Another classic Gray ensemble. Every wizard princess needs a gun. And one glove.
Kate and Colin took these pictures of me and the kids. They did a pretty good job of keeping people in the picture. Too bad I didn't have my hair done or any makeup on.
A bath in mom's tub in the middle of the day?! What the what?! Those are some lucky kids.
Pioneer Day parade. I kind of forgot to take pictures. I love Mapleton's parade. It's short, they throw candy, and it's short. The kids were dancing to the music here. Gray was more sedate in his dancing than Kate was.
July was a pretty busy month for us, in as much as we are ever busy. We had family in town, lots of birthday celebrations, 4th of July, 24th of July, trips to Seven Peaks and the splash pad, and a bazillion doctor appointments. The kids had eye/ear infections, and I had pregnancy. Gestational diabetes reared it's ugly head again, necessitating more trips to the doctor/hospital than usual. Plus my low-lying placenta means extra ultrasounds and threats of a c-section. Plus I had a nasty cold for 2 weeks. Good times!

June
On the second day of June, Nate smoked some turkey legs. They were delicious.
Colin came out to help me in the garden one morning. I left my jacket on the grass, and Colin insisted on wearing it. He said it made him look like a Jawa.
Then he changed from being a Jawa to being a Jedi like Obi Wan. I have never been so proud.
I made a special Angry Birds pizza for dinner. It was a hit.
The kids gathered around the oven to watch the cookies bake. They are in their pajamas because we baked early in the morning. What, it's not like we ate them in the morning. It just gets hot here later in the day.
Can you tell who was really into it?
Guess I also made some crusty rustic bread. It's delicious.
Hannah offered to take my kids to the Art City Days carnival. I tagged along to help with crowd control. The kids rode a few rides, then we got a treat.
I snapped this little gem at church one day. I felt guilty taking a picture during church, but this just cracked me up. Colin was coloring in Kate's pony book. I looked down to discover that he was doing a color-by-number. He had read the directions and colored the numbers. Hilarious.

I'm just reading the scriptures, Mom. Leave me alone.
Gray still loves the Little People. I believe the llama was driving his friends around. He was making the cutest sound effects while he played. Adorable.
This was one of Gray's first nights in the big boy bed. I guess at one point he got out of his bed and found the paper ant the kids made at the library that day. Then he pulled it apart and slipped the paper rings around his arms. The pipe cleaner legs are in a pile next to his pillow. Silly kid.
Hooray for the dentist! I'm glad the kids are still young enough that they love the dentist. I even loved the dentist that trip, because despite my months with a high vomit/low toothbrushing ratio, I still didn't have any cavities. Huzzah!
Father's Day! Nate wanted a tool handbag thing, so we loaded up all the tool spots with candy. The kids helped me pick out what they thought he would like. Skittles, Nerds, Snickers, and granola bars. Oh, and a t-shirt with a turkey leg on it from my mom. (See previous pictures.)

Nate later crashed and burned on the wiggle-scoots (or whatever the h those things are called) at his parents' house.
We've spent a lot of time at the Springville splash pad this summer. The kids love it. It has a classic splash pad area as well as a fun shallow creek with rocks and fountains. I love that it is close and free.

A trip to the dollar store ended with sunglasses for everyone. Lookin' good!

I don't know what I was thinking when I decided Colin could have a party with friends this year. He wanted a superhero party, just like last year. I made a generic superhero cake, and I like how it turned out, except for the part where it was leaning. I also made capes and masks for the kids (with a great deal of help from my mom).
These are the only two pictures I have from the party. I feel like there were more, but I can't find them. Maybe they're on my camera instead of my phone. Colin and his friends/cousins played Superhero, Superhero, Villan; and Squirt the Villan Picture That You Just Colored. Then they ate hot dogs and cake and ice cream and opened presents.
