I've decided to give potty training a go. I won a few potty training DVDs a while ago, and Colin watched one for the first time on Saturday. He loved it! He was so excited that he actually wanted to sit on his potty chair (before he was terrified of it). He likes to sing the songs from the DVD too. He's sat down several times today, and he actually peed twice. He's also had one accident and one diaper put on him for nap time. I'm not sure what to do to encourage him to go or to discourage him to wet his pants. He tells me when he's pooping, but he won't say anything when he has to pee. I could really use some tips from all you mothers out there who have done this before!
Pretty please?

I really wish I had better tips for you! It seemed like once I stopped stressing out about it, it just happened. Potty prizes did help though. After he got the pee thing down, potty prizes were only won after pooping. I don't have much, sorry!
Mason liked to earn prizes too. The more often you can get him to sit down and try, the better. For a while with mason, we had a timer every 30-1 hour that would go off to remind me to have him try. He got a prize whenever he did something in the toilet. Every time he sat down we would sing and talk and I would always have the water running in the sink, just in case. You could also give him a sticker every time he tries, if that is reinforcing. Since he loves to have his picture taken you could tell him you will take a picture of what he does in the toilet to show his favorite Aunt Lenna. Ha. Throw a big party when he actually goes and then he'll be so anxious to please and he will keep trying. i made mason drink a lot when we were first training too, just so he would have to go more. There will be accidents but the trick is to stick with it. If he gets emotional or upset about it, don't push it too hard, just remind him that this is what the big boys do and this is how he earns cool prizes and the choice is his! It really helps to keep pants off too, at least at the beginning. Kids have to make a connection of what their body is doing in order to know what to do! I think Mason was underwearless for a few days. I just had a cheap plastic curtain that I put on the couch and on the floor where he was sitting with a blanket on top...just in case. Blankets can easily be washed...the floor and couch not so easily. wow. I typed a lot. good luck! My sister in laws strategy was just to let Kyson run around naked outside and pee on everything. Inspiration to get your fence up!
wait another year
