Stewart Falls 2015

On Wednesday the Primary Presidency took the Activity Day girls hiking to Stewart Falls. It was fun!

Someone loves to brush. And wear hats. And wear diapers. This was obviously before we left.

We had a good turnout! Almost every girl in the ward came. 17 activity day girls, plus my four, plus two Hurtado boys, plus Kari's littlest. We got a bit of a late start, but everyone was happy and ready to go once we got to the trailhead.

Kylie, Lydia, Rebekah, Audrey, Christian, and Gabby.

We made it!

Colin was happy to be done hiking for a few minutes!

Ryan Hawkins, the walrus.

So pretty. This is one of my favorite waterfalls.

Colin trying to be a walrus too.

I'm really quite proud of this picture. I was trying to get a picture of me with the falls, and this is what happened.

Me, my kids, a few other kids, some strangers, the waterfall, and Ryan's backside.

Colin photobomb.

It was a good hike. I was definitely tired at the end. Carrying an almost 2 year old on your back is no joke! But I did it, and the kids were all amazing. Gray had a hard time on the way back. It is really steep and rocky the first bit on the way back. I was up front leading the girls, and Gray was behind with Tracy and Ryan. I guess he sat down after a while and wouldn't move, and it wasn't until they realized he was thirsty and dehydrated and offered him some water that he recovered and was fine. Tracy said he walked the rest of the way after that. I felt bad that I wasn't back there taking care of him. But he's a tough little 3 year old! I like taking my kids to do things like this so they can realize that they can do hard things. We are Silveys! Big, strong Silveys! (That's our family chant.)

Swimmering and the libary

How cute is this kid?! It  makes me sad that he's growing up so fast, but it's been so fun watching him grown and learn and get cuter and cuter.

We went swimming at the Lindon Aquatics Center on Monday (I think), which is one of the best pools for little kids that I have ever been to. Hannah works for the Lindon parks and rec department, so the kids call it Hannah's Pool. Our outing got cut a little short because of lightning, but we still had a great time.

It took Jude a good hour before he was content being the water. Before that he whined and clung to me and wanted to get out.

Who's the linebacker with the sweet tan line walking with my boys?

Tuesday was the first summer reading program story time thing at the Springville Library. The theme for the summer is superheroes, and this one was about superheroes who don't wear capes (i.e. doctors, teachers, nurses, dentists, police officers, firemen). It wasn't their best effort. There were some technical difficulties, and I was pretty bored. But the kids seems okay with it.

Afterward there were bookmarks to color and toothbrush kids to take. There were also firemen out squirting kids by the park with their water hoses. I was a mean mom and didn't let the kids get wet because we had to run to Reams for groceries and meet my friend Bekah who was visiting from Missouri. Lenna let her kids get wet though, and they looked like they were having a marvelous time.

Art City Days

So, Art City Days. I have a love/hate relationship with Art City Days. I hate the carnival, but I love looking through the booths. I hate paying ridiculous prices for food, but I love shaved ice and other things that are bad for me. I hate sitting out in the hot sun, but I love for my kids to enjoy parades. I hate crowds, but I love for my kids to do arts and crafts.

These first pictures are from before Art City Days. This is what happens when we try to take a picture of all of us.

I had to return some clothes that I bought online. At the Children's Place I spent more money than I got back. But 4 pairs of sunglasses for less than $8? That seems okay to me. And look how stinkin' cute they are!

Oh Costco. You make everything better. And how cute is Jude's hipster hair?

Gray is worn out in the afternoons. He doesn't take naps anymore, and hasn't for like a year, but if we get in the car after 3:00 he crashes. Hard. He wouldn't even stand up. When I propped him up he sunk right back down like this.

It's easy to tell when Dad has candy.

So I took my kids (and cousins joined us) to the Art City Days Children's Art Festival last Friday morning. It was very crowded, but also very fun. We didn't get to do everything, but I think everyone enjoyed themselves.

Decorating sunglasses

Our friend Marni was working at the sunglasses booth. She works for Warren Orthodontics. And she's beautiful.

Getting faces painted by princesses. I tried to get Jude a mustache, but he was not into it.

So cute!

That's my boy! He got a Y on his cheek and decorated his sunglasses with RSL.

My camera was turned around. It confused me.

We also made harmonica/kazoo things out of popsicle sticks and rubber bands. It was a fun morning!

On Saturday we went to the carnival with the cousins and Granny and Papa. The kids each rode two or three rides, and they were happy. Jude fell asleep in his stroller and was happy. Nate was hot and not happy.

I put a hat on Jude, but I forgot to put sunscreen on his legs. His tan line cracks me up.

Nate and I bailed a little early and took the kids to Reams for a shaved ice. There was a sweet booth that I wish I could have looked at more. (We powered through so I didn't get to really look at anything.) It was called Nerd Wood and it had some awesome Star Wars signs that I want to try and recreate.
