Colin's Primary Talk

Colin gave a talk in Primary in August. Here is the text:

Colin’s Talk

Heavenly Father wants me to pray to Him often.

When you need to know an answer to a question, who do you ask? When you are hurt, who can help you? When you are sad, who can comfort you? Heavenly Father can.

In the scriptures, we read of men, women, and children who prayed to Heavenly Father when they had questions or needed help.

A great example of prayer is Daniel. He lived in a busy city near the king’s palace. The king made a law that said no one was allowed to pray to Heavenly Father. Daniel prayed every day even though the law said that people who prayed would be thrown into a den of hungry lions. Daniel knew the importance of prayer and decided to keep praying.

Because he continued to pray, Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den. But Heavenly Father protected him from the lions.

Daniel Chapter 6 says:

Then said Daniel unto the king...

My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

We can pray to Heavenly Father anytime, anywhere. Just as Heavenly Father heard the prayers of the people in the scriptures, Heavenly Father hears our prayers today, and He answers them in ways that will be for the best.

He got up and read this entire talk all by himself. He didn't need any prompting and he didn't stumble over any of the words. He wasn't shy or afraid. (We read through it together a couple of times before church started.) Nate stood up there with him for moral support and held the picture of Daniel in the lions' den. During his talk almost every teacher in the room turned around to look at me and mouth the words, "Is he reading that?" They were super impressed. Colin did such a great job and we are so proud of him!
