spring and easter and stuff

One of my children took this lovely picture of me.

Nate and I went to a white elephant party with some of his coworkers. I found out the day before that it was a white elephant party. So I had to come up with some gifts. I found this awesome frame at DI for $0.75 and printed up a picture of Nate from 7 years ago. Nate even signed it.

I also bought some dolls at DI and cut off their arms and legs.

Kate thought the doll was still cool and asked if she could have it. I let her play with it for a day or two, then it mysteriously disappeared.

I used the doll arms and hot glue and a piece of wood from an old pallet I had outside to create this masterpiece. It's a coat rack. And it didn't give me nightmares at all.

I also took the kids to the library where they made this sweet contraption.

This is the only picture I took at the white elephant party. Nate won the game. And I won the gift exchange since my coat rack was highly coveted. (People only wanted it so they could regift it at their next white elephant party.) Nate's boss won his picture and hung it up at work.

Jude demanded I take a picture of his elbow.

I gave the boys haircuts. It was time.

He is probably the handsomest creature on the planet.

And he's probably the goofiest. But I love him too.

Oh, Jude didn't get a haircut. But he did get another elbow picture.

He was so cute running down the street with his packpack on that I had to get a picture.

Kate thought she could wear this outfit to school. I disagreed. (But for the record, I would let her wear it on a Saturday. Just not to school.)

From Colin's SEP. I don't know what he's saying. There's another video too, but it's too big.

Kate attended her final cheer camp. I'm saying it's her last one, because our neighbor across the street is graduating, and I can't think of any reason I would sign up for cheer camp without Mary Nelson.

Kate had fun, but she refused to smile for a picture with her Mary.

What an adorable little toilet cleaner. He was so excited to help!

Gray and his friend Ben were driving me nuts. So I told them to go build the coolest Lego creation they could. And they happily ran off and did it. This is what they came up with.

We took the kids on a family date on the 12th. We went to a park and had a picnic lunch. Then we went to the Bean Museum. Then we shared a frozen yogurt concoction from Hogi Yogi (because I had a gift card).

I love this Superman shirt/cape combo.

I didn't realize my reflection was so visible until this photo was larger.

Jude loves lions. That's what he's looking at.

The boys were too scared to actually crawl inside. That made me laugh.

The caption on this photo made Nate and me laugh.

We were there just at the right time for a live animal show!

This is what the mudroom bathroom looks like. I like random signs.

Nate and I spontaneously decided to switch up the kids' bedrooms. Kate now has a room all to herself. She's upstairs.

The boys' room downstairs. They like Star Wars.

I took this picture because I noticed empty shelves on my bookshelf. Now I need to go buy more books.

I made a pie for Pi Day. It was a last minute thing, and I had to use what I had on hand. So this is a S'more Pie, a graham cracker crust with chocolate pudding filling and marshmallows on top. The marshmallows were especially delicious.

Dr. Seuss family night at the Springville library.

Mayor Clyde read a story to the kids.

I bought this brand-new sweater at DI. I love it. Not bad for $4.

I made this delicious enchilada pasta for dinner. No one was a fan, except for me. Note to self: next time, use MILD enchilada sauce.

I got a book from the library that I just loved. It's called Texts from Jane Eyre, and it cracked me up. I took a picture of this conversation with Emily Dickinson because it reminded me of my sister Heather.

I took the kids (and one of Colin's friends) to the rock and gem show in Spanish Fork on the 18th since there was no school. I love that place. I always feel like I learn something there. And the kids brought some of their money and bought some cool rocks. We all walked away happy.

I made this for my sister-in-law. It turned out great, though I say so myself. I'm really proud of myself. Really.

Gray had this dumb expression on his face while he watched a show in the car.

Kate's kindergarten class had an egg drop (which was basically just a project for parents). I'm proud to say that my egg (I mean Kate's egg) didn't break. I put the egg in a baggie of Rice Krispies, then put that bag in a bigger bag of Rice Krispies, then put those bags in a large cereal box weighed down with rocks and filled with empty grocery bags.

Right after this picture she fell down in the parking lot and smashed her egg.

We had a neighborhood Easter breakfast the Saturday before Easter. It's a tradition that's been going on 22 years. It wasn't nearly as cold as I thought it would be. I was in charge of dessert for our family Easter gathering later on Saturday. This is how the first batch of cupcakes turned out. I have no words. I can't explain it. It was just a regular ol' cake mix!

I tried some mini cupcakes (made from the same batter) and they turned out fine. So we had mini cupcakes.

My delicious desserts. The cream puffs were topped with lemon cream and fresh fruit. The cupcakes were filled with lemon curd and topped with fresh strawberry frosting.

I think Jude is responsible for this winning picture.

Easter is pretty low key at our house. I don't go crazy on gifts or candy, because I don't think it's necessary. It's not like it's Christmas, or their birthday. Anyway, the kids got a family basket with 3 pieces of candy each, a bag of popcorn, and some books. The chocolate rabbits were from their granny. I wasn't going to hid any eggs at all, but the kids were sad that we didn't do any kind of Easter egg hunt, so I hid 7 eggs for each of them with some change in them. I only have 3 baskets, so Jude got a ghost.

I'm glad they're still young and easy to please.

After lunch we went to the church to try and fly the kite the kids got from their aunt. We either suck at kite flying, or there was something wrong.

Kate and Gray tried to share Seth's coat. This is what happened. I laughed and laughed and didn't try to help at all.

Kate emerged victorious.

Nate and Colin climbed a tree.

The kids played with Uncle Grant for a few minutes while Nate and I ran an errand. Jude fell in love with this rocking pig. That is a look of pure joy on his sweet little face.

For FHE on the 28th, we talked about learning and then Colin gave us a powerpoint presentation that he had created in his free time. It was about soda. It was highly inaccurate, but he was so proud of himself. It had pictures and everything.

Jude is so cute when he sings. I finally got a tiny bit of it on video.

I don't know how I feel about this. I found it in Colin's backpack.
